How to Find Great Lighting
1. Put them near a window or open doors
Doing this will give you the most stunning natural light! Be carful to not block the light while shooting or creating any shadows!
2. Golden Hour!!
Always always always shoot during golden hour!! Anytime you can control a session time such as engagement or family session make it for golden hour! If you are doing a wedding ask the couple before the wedding day if they would be willing to do ten minutes during golden hour and tell them they will be the most dreamy pictures! This is when the lighting is the most flattering and gives that golden glow to everything! To figure out when golden hour is just Google when sunset is and golden hour will be an hour before sunset! Example: Sunset is at 6pm so golden hour starts at 5pm
3. Look for eye pops
If you are unable to shoot during golden hour you are going to want to look for shaded areas! Try to find shade where the light is coming in and hitting their face and try to stay away from backlight shaded areas where the background will be totally blown out!
5. If you have an amazing backgound but the light is on the subjects backs bring a light into help!
In this picture the sun was setting on the back of them so the light was not hitting their faces the way that I wanted it to. I could have switched places with them but I really wanted the beautiful background in the pictures so I added in some light! Here is the light kit I use for weddings and in the picture above!
I hope this was helpful!! I cover this and much more in my Mentorship Program! If you would like more information please email me!
